Ciyeza Cleaning — Cape Town
Post-construction cleaning in Cape Town — what's involved and what it costs
Building work leaves behind a specific kind of mess. Construction dust settles on every surface — inside cupboards, on top of light fittings, into window tracks. There's paint overspray, plaster residue, adhesive on tiles, and protective film on fixtures that needs to come off without leaving marks. Regular cleaning products and household vacuums don't deal with it properly.
Whether it's a kitchen renovation, a bathroom redo, a new build, or a full home renovation — getting it clean enough to actually move into takes time and the right approach. Here's what the process involves and what it costs in Cape Town.
What the clean covers
Post-construction cleaning is done in stages. The rough clean comes first — removing rubble, off-cuts, packaging, and large debris. Then the detail clean, which is the bulk of the work:
Dust removal
Construction dust is fine and gets everywhere. Every surface — walls, ceilings, light fittings, vents, the top of door frames — needs to be worked through systematically. Industrial vacuums are better at this than household ones.
Windows and glass
Frames, sills, tracks, and glass inside and out. Paint spots, adhesive residue, and plaster marks removed.
Floors
Tiles cleaned and any grout haze or adhesive removed. Hard floors cleaned and polished. Carpets vacuumed — if there's heavy construction dust in carpet, steam cleaning is usually needed.
Kitchen and bathrooms
New fixtures cleaned of installation residue and polished. Cupboards and drawers wiped inside. Taps, sinks, and fittings cleaned properly before first use.
Paintwork and surfaces
Skirting boards, door frames, and cornices wiped. Paint drips on surfaces removed where possible.
What does it cost in Cape Town?
| Job | Typical price |
|---|---|
| Single room renovation (kitchen / bathroom) | From R800 |
| 3-bedroom home renovation | From R1500 |
| New build (full house) | Quoted after site visit |
| Commercial fit-out / office | Quoted per project |
Larger projects or spaces with heavy paint/adhesive residue take longer and cost more. We assess first and give a fixed price before starting.
A note on construction dust
Fine silica dust from cement and plaster work is a respiratory irritant. It's worth taking seriously, particularly in enclosed spaces. We use equipment suited to removing it properly rather than just redistributing it — which is what happens when you wipe dusty surfaces with a cloth before vacuuming.
For larger projects, it's also worth allowing a day or two after the construction team has finished before the clean starts — dust that's still settling in the air will just resettle on surfaces you've already cleaned.
